A great entry in this years Matchplay Championship, for the first time we had to have qualifying rounds for the Inter & Jun Gents. They were held in Dunshaughlin and were hotly contested. The Inter & Senior Gents were in Trim for their finals while the Jun Gents and Ladies were in Navan. It was a lovely day and both courses were in immaculate condition. There were very exciting matches especially between Evan Carry & Eamon Gibney in the Senior final and Ann Bird & Kathleen Geraghty; both matches ended with chip-ins on the 36th hole.
Saturday last saw the Leinster Inter-County Ladies Championships in St. Brigid’s in Kildare. The Meath Ladies Inter team were the winners, Captain Teresa Fagan (Royal Meath), Ann Bird (Laytown), Christine Morgan (Dunshaughlin) and Margaret Conneely (Trim).
Meanwhile, back at the Royal Meath club in Clonee, the Jun Gents team were in action and were runners up in the Leinster Inter-County Championship. Captain Jonathon McCabe, Jimmy Burke, (both Navan) Stephen McCabe (Castletown), Richie Walsh & Evan Ganley (both Trim) and Richard Brennan (Bellewstown).
Up in Glenville in Dublin the Juvenile events were taking place and Sophie Farnan won the U/16 Strokeplay Championships for the second year, after a nine-hole playoff.
Our Inter-County team event saw the Meath team finishing in 4th place from a strong field.
Sunday last saw Evan Carry from the Castletown club in the U/20 National Strokeplay Championship, Evan was runner up in this event and clubmate Seanie Bellew finished in 4th spot.
